How do we see color? Color really is something we take for granted sometimes. Take this example. White light bounces off a red baseball cap. How do we know it is red? White light consists of all the colors of the rainbow. When the white light hits the baseball cap, all the red part of the light is being reflected, and all of the other colors are getting aborbed. It works that way for all of the other colors, except for black and white. White, the absence of all colors, reflects all light. Black, the presence of all colors, absorbs all light. That's why if it's hot out, you're supposed to wear white and if you wear black in the summer, you get warmer quickly. |
