Refraction...

What is Refraction? Refraction happens when light slows down when passing through different mediums like going through a gas (like air) then going through a liquid (like water).

Then, what does a prism do? When light travels through a prism, it gets refracted. The prism separates the lights so you can see a rainbow. You can find a picture of refraction through a prism here.

Why are all the colors in the rainbow always seen in the same order? The colors have different wavelengths, red with the longest wavelength, violet with the shortest. The colors go in order of wavelengths, keeping them in the same order, all the time.
