Magnets in General! Earth and Magnets! Major Kudos! Home!

No, they're not the same...
You may think that the magnetic and geographic poles of the earth would be the same. You'd think wrong. Let's back up first. The earth behaves like there is a large bar magnet inside of it, with a north and a south pole. The earth gives out magnetic forces and is surrounded by a magnetic field that is strongest near the north and south magnetic poles. The magnetic poles are actually the opposite of the geographic poles. The 'line' itself is close, but the geographic north pole is actually the magnetic south pole! That proves that compasses, which point to the magnetic poles, are actually pointing to south, instead of north.
